An anti-terrorism court has granted bail to former Malir SSP Rao Anwar in a case pertaining to the use of illegal weapons and explosives in the fake encounter which killed Naqeebullah Mehsud.
Anwar is expected to be released by today evening as his counsel has submitted security bonds of Rs1 million.
Earlier, the ATC had reserved its verdict on Anwar’s bail plea on July 17.
The former Malir SSP was accused of killing 27-year-old Mehsud and three others in a fake police encounter on January 13.
Following the court orders granting bail to the suspended police official in Naqeebullah Mehusd murder case last week, Naqeeb’s father questioned the partiality of the judge hearing the case. His counsels have also repeatedly claimed that Anwar was being awarded a special treatment.
Since his arrest, Anwar was kept in his Malir residence which was declared a sub-jail by authorities.
