ISLAMABAD: Action against the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) managing director was demanded on Thursday by the opposition parties over the air crash that claimed 47 lives on Wednesday.
Opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) Khursheed Shah said that despite the airline’s policy restricting six new ATR jets from flying to Gilgit or Chitral, PK-661 was still being operated for those areas – for which he demanded stern action against the PIA’s managing director as his negligence resulted in loss of precious lives.
Meanwhile, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq also came up with similar questions pertaining to the incident. “If the crashed plane was not fit to fly, then who allowed it to operate a flight?” he questioned – stressing that this very thing needs to be investigated.
“The policy of let bygones be bygones won’t work here and we will take up this matter at all levels,” the JI chief vowed after declaring the PIA responsible for Wednesday’s tragedy.
An ATR-42 aircraft of the PIA first went missing on Civil Aviation Authority radar and crashed moments later near Havelian. Renowned singer-turned-preacher Junaid Jamshed and his wife were among the 47 casualties – 42 passengers and five crew members.
